Frequently Asked Questions

Parents

Can you offer face to face support or is it all online?

We have worked with a few families to find teachers near them who can offer face-to-face support but it is dependant on what you need and if a teacher right for you is near to you. We can discuss what this could look like in a consultation.

You will have access to more opportunities if you are willing to meet with an educator online or have them teach your child online. We know that less screen time is better so our educators aim to limit the amount of hours that students meet online and do our best to encourage assigning work that is project based, hands on and away from the screen.

How long do your programs run for?

All packages run for a term at a time and must be paid for before the beginning of a term.

Can you help me create units, that I can teach?

Yes, in fact this is one of the most popular packages we offer- a teacher to support you to develop units of work for your children. We can find a qualified teacher, an expert in inquiry based, student-driven learning projects to plan for you, and you can teach them. This helps develop your ability as an educator as we empower you. This may mean you won’t need our support in the future (sad, but also our goal!)

I want to “unschool” my child and help them move away from online learning. How do you cater for this?

We have expert teachers who can plan project based units of work that bring numerous areas of the curriculum together. This aims to get your students to drive their own learning and follow their curiosity. The teachers regularly check in with you to continue updating your plan, so you can tap in to the direction that your child wants to take, ensuring you are addressing gaps in children’s understanding, and meeting your learning goals.

What does being in the database mean?

Joining our database means you are an option for our consultants to seek services from, if the right family comes along. We ask questions around what hours you are willing to work and your experience and skills. This informs what family we match you with. We do not guarantee that you will receive the amount of work you want, but do our best to find the right family fit for you.

For how long do I need to commit to a job for?

All jobs are dependant on the families needs. Families commit for at least half a term at a time.

How will I be paid?
You will be paid at an agreed rate (this is confidential and made clear before you agree to a job). The rate is based on your experience and credentials. Payments are usually sub-contracted to you, and this means you need your own ABN and need to take care of your own tax and superannuation. For some jobs we pay teachers as an “employee” but this is only for unique circumstances (usually ongoing work).

What hours do I need to be available for?

This is flexible and dependent on yours and the family’s needs. Some jobs require you to work on planning and communication via email in your own time. Lesson times can be negotiated around your availability. Your availability and the amount of hours you are seeking is selected when you apply for our database.
